Many memory manufacturers “functional test” memory modules using specialized ATE memory testers that subject the DRAM to a variety of test patterns to detect bad memory cells or hard errors. There are some memory manufacturers that also do system level testing to filter out memory modules which have soft errors or which are not compatible with the systems hardware and BIOS software characteristics.
